Searching a project

Search covers the record types you have turned on: characters, locations, chapters, entries and the rest. It matches names and text, and results say which module each hit came from so a name that exists as both a character and a place is not ambiguous.

Filtering

List views filter on custom fields backed by custom values — every character of the third house, every location above a population. Free-text fields are searched rather than filtered, which is the practical reason to back a field with a list when you expect to filter on it.

What search will not show you

Results are filtered by permission, per project and per module. If your role cannot read characters, a character never appears in your results — not as a redacted row, not as a count. The absence is the point: a search that reports "three results you may not see" has told you they exist.

Global search

The palette searches across every project you can reach, for when you remember the name but not where you put it. It is scoped the same way — each project's results respect your role in that project.

Searching the library

Readers search published stories by title, author, genre and rating in the library. That search covers published work only; nothing unpublished is reachable from it.
